Los Angeles-based manufacturer strengthens its position in the workplace furniture market with strategic procurement.
DeskMakers Acquires Furniture Company Scale1:1
November 5, 2019, Commerce, CA – DeskMakers today announced the acquisition of the operating assets of Scale1:1, Inc. (scale1to1.com), a Los Angeles-based contemporary furniture brand committed to innovative design. The purchase of Scale1:1 represents an expansion for DeskMakers that opens the door to a new audience while increasing the variety of designs available to its current clients and dealers by leveraging Scale1:1’s diverse and unique portfolio of products.
“We’re excited about Scale1:1 joining the DeskMakers family,” said Phil Polishook, CEO of DeskMakers. “When I first encountered Scale1:1, I was blown away by their innovative approach, and I’m excited to introduce these amazing designs to our existing client base.”
Scale1:1 was founded in 2010 by Clara Reis, a workplace ergonomic specialist who recognized a gap between the traditional office environment and the savvy minded young professionals driving the modern economy. Together with David Winston, architect and founder of Cleanroom Design Lab, the duo launched the company to create furniture solutions for the contemporary collaborative workplace. Their pioneering approach to furniture design earned Scale1:1 a NeoCon silver award in 2016 for their EYHOV benching system, the same year DeskMakers won gold in the same category for its Hover bench product.
Commenting on the transition, Reis said, “We are proud to have built a reputation in the industry for cutting-edge products serving tech firms and the Gen Z buyer. As a Los Angeles based manufacturer, DeskMakers company values align perfectly with Scale1:1’s passion for design and flexibility, we couldn’t be more thrilled to move forward with this promising transition.”
Scale1:1 will continue to operate as an independent brand, but will co-locate its operations with DeskMakers in Commerce, Calif., to capitalize on the flourishing design culture in Los Angeles. Reis will join DeskMakers as a marketing advisor, while Winston will serve as DeskMakers’ VP of Creative Design with plans to elevate and strengthen the brand’s position in the market.
DeskMakers’ strategic decision to expand its offering through this new acquisition will help further its goal of becoming a go-to resource in the corporate sector with plans for future advancement into other market segments. “This acquisition helps aligns with our brand promise of enabling our customers to achieve their design vision for the workplace and beyond,” Polishook said.
